Overview
Birlasoft drives large-scale OTM migration and upgrades across five installs to realize cost-savings and operational enhancements for a multinational consumer products company.
Logistics holds a special significance in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, as it strongly influences margins, revenues, and fulfillment effectiveness of businesses. Therefore, having strong digital capabilities to orchestrate logistics operations is a key asset for CPG businesses today.
Our client, a household name in Food & Beverages, beauty, and consumer products, wanted to bolster its logistics operations by modernizing its OTM environments. With current OTM installs supporting 80+ business entities across North America, Latin America, India, APAC, and Europe, they sought support for upgrading and migrating their Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) deployments to the cloud.
To this end, they partnered with Birlasoft in a large-scale OTM modernization project. We worked with the client to implement new OTM capabilities, upgrade current deployments, and migrate historical data to the cloud across various geographies, bringing significant operational impact on a global scale. Read the details of this engagement below.
The Challenge
#1. Upgrading to latest version of OTM Cloud across all deployments
The client wanted to adopt some of the key capabilities available in the latest versions of OTM cloud and exploit the cost benefits and agility of running OTM on the cloud. This was a massive undertaking with a wide operational landscape comprising 80+ businesses across multiple continents.
#2. Migrating historical OTM data and delivering responsive support across rollouts
In addition to upgrading existing deployments, the client sought support for migrating OTM transactional data for the India business to the cloud and IT and business support for other geographies.
#3. OTM Cloud migration for a deployment with numerous customizations
One of the business units was running on an OTM deployment with multiple essential customizations. Retrofitting these customizations in OTM cloud proved challenging, and required careful configuration of the target environment.
The Solution
#1. OTM application upgrade and cloud roadmaps for five deployments
After thoroughly assessing each environment, Birlasoft swiftly deployed OTM experts to devise optimal cloud roadmaps for five deployments. This was followed by provisioning and configuring the latest OTM cloud versions for each deployment.
#2. Implementation of new OTM capabilities to modernize logistics workflows
Following OTM upgrades, we helped the client adopt new capabilities to mature their logistics processes. We implemented the Smart Spot solution for Europe, Dynamic Clustering in APAC, and developed a mobile app for claim uploads, spot bidding, and loadability approvals.
#3. Migration of historical transactional data to the cloud for India region
We leveraged our proprietary MIGRA tool for the India region to rapidly and securely move two years of historical transactional with 10mn+ records to the cloud. This data was made available in the new OTM environment from day one, with zero data loss.
#4. Post-deployment support to ease the transition to OTM Cloud
After upgrading to the OTM cloud, we offered L2/L3 support across all markets to quickly resolve IT issues in the new application environments. In addition, Birlasoft also delivered business support for OTM upgrades in the Europe region and SME support in the LATAM markets.
